SOUP JS

This is a pure JS rewrite of SOUP 0.91, a minimalist Japanese art-game from 2007 where you walk around a series of small, abstract rooms and generally soak in the atmosphere (description stolen from this amazing fan mod of the game!).

The author of SOUP, Yarhalla,  describes it as a "looking around simulator."

I am not the auther of SOUP! I am responsible only for rewriting the game in JS.

Headphones strongly recommended.

CONTROLS

Keyboard

• Move: WASD or Arrow Keys.
• Interact: Space, Return, Enter.

Mouse

• Click to enter pointer lock (doesn't work in fullscreen Safari!).
• Move the mouse to look around.

Gamepad

• Move: DPAD or left thumb stick.
• Camera: Right thumb stick.
• Interact: Any face button or Start.

WHAT'S THE DEAL?

SOUP is split into days, and each day is split into several rooms to explore and soak in. The original game exits at the end of each day. This version of the game loops back to the title screen, instead.

Other than that, SOUP is a game about vibes. There may be little things to notice, if you allow yourself to sit and observe.

I've tried to preserve as many aspects of the original game as possible.  For example, it was important to replicate the breathing animation closely, since it creates many of the beautiful visual effects in this game, like twinkling stars.

ISSUES

If you notice anything that seems broken or inaccurate, please let me know in the comments.

KNOWN ISSUES

- In Safari, pointer lock is broken in fullscreen. This only happens running the game on itch, and I'm not sure why.

- Visible flicker as scenes load (I'm workin' on it).
